Ahalya by Koral Dasgupta

Book Review #42

“Ahalya”, is the first book in Sati Series of India Mythology. The five books of the Sati series reinvent these women and their partners besides their husbands, in the modern context with a feminist consciousness. To begin with , “Ahalya” is an entertaining, well-researched, and offers an interesting see through into ancient world. This book can easily earn a spot on your TBR list. Before reading this book I wasn’t aware of who Ahalya was apparently.

Here is a chance to see Ahalya as she portrays herself. Narrated in first person, we are witness to her birth, her attraction for Indra, and her agony. Amidst the scene of her unnatural birth, she finds the strength to question her father Bhrama, about the very concept of a mother and father.

Making use of the easiest form of narrative, Koral has chosen to explore a character with depth, diving into her past, upbringing, and the course their narratives took potentially take in the future. This book is a must-read for any person who has an interest in Indian mythology. The book provides a fresh perspective of a women’s relationship and attempts to show you a different side of the whole story.

The Last Witch Of Sumer By Venu G. Joshi

The Last Witch of Sumer eBook: Joshi, Venu G.: Amazon.in: Kindle Store

*****************Book Review 41****************

To begin with I would like to apologize and thank Venu sir at the same time. Apologize because I took way too long to review the book and thanks for the patience he has shown in the due course. You are the best sir ! The protagnist Anja visits Del Tores to look for her kidnapped mother where she meets Elias Sanguine a power vampire. Going forward, what made me to pick this book was the connection with witch title as I am fascinated by the sbject. I am always been fascinated by the idea behind it, and the psychological elements. I thought that The last Witch of Sumer was able to capture this well but only to a certain extent.

I kept wondering if Anja’s emotional balancing and tolerant perspective wasn’t over too much but ultimately believed that as per her story, it is very much possible and believable that this character would be so confident. I read this book over night in one sitting. There were definitely good and bad things about it, especially when it came to its main character and I certainly enjoyed it to a point.

The book is brilliantly written story with fresh, unique characters and an eccentric plot. It was addictive and ended with a thoughtful conclusion. A story with hold, betrayal and revenge, but more than that , it is a story about the redemptive power of daughterly love to make even the bad to good.

YOU BENEATH YOUR SKIN By Damyanti Biswas

About the Author

**************Coming Soon****************

Book Review 40

“You Beneath Your Skin” isn’t only an intuitive thriller. Biswas brings enormous fondness to her portrait of debutante novelist . The author is such a master of her material that the reader does not feel inclined to worry at what may or may not happen next in the book. The book carries the deeper, darker impact, touching on the crimes of a city and the sparse nature of evil. The book’s best part is that it easily accommodates big questions without compromising anything in accessibility; it recreates a world that is equally alive and haunting.

The story starts with Anjali and Jatin who tries to investigate the serial murders, rapes, and vicious attacks on poor young women in Delhi. Anjali also volunteers herself in various social activities to help the poor and underprivileged people of Delhi. On of such cases was when she tries to find the mother for a sibling couple, and keeping them safe until the mother is found. A kind soul with enough problems of her own tries to put in that extra effort to ensure that the unfortunate ones have a better life. Set against the culture of their friends, and family, that are based in Delhi, there are innumerable minor stories, from tentative romance, drug dealing, to family secrets and eventual revelations as brutal, horrific, and surprising as is possible to imagine.

You may not like the deep down facts of city the writer has to say, but you have to admire her ability to say it. Just make sure you don’t have go anywhere post you start reading this book, if you don’t put it down, out of emergencies you won’t be able to pull yourself away from “You Beneath Your Skin.” At last I want to say that Damyanti is by and large successful in bringing to life her Psychological thriller.

Dear Ladies, Bras are made of delicate fabrics and elastics, and should always be washed by hand and washed in cool water, Dale said. you should never ever put your bras in the washing machine or hot water that will shorten their life span.

Below are the six bra styles to decide which ones are correct for yourself.

Women who want their breasts to look smaller should prefer the “Minimizer Bra”. It has a capability of reducing breast projection by up to two and a half inches for a more flattering high heels under clothes.

3) Push-up Bra

A “Push-up Bra” basically pushes your breasts upwards and closer together to naturally enhance the cleavage. It is best suited for the women with smaller breasts and who are looking to enhance their bust and show cleavage, push up bras are a good option.

4) Wireless Bra

These are lightweight and feel effortless on the body. The purpose of underwire bra is to appreciate the original shape of the breasts mainly the heavy breasts. The breasts tissues are encompassed that gives a lift and a desirable round shape.

5) Balconette Bra

If you regularly visit a gym, you should surely purchase a sports bra it will help your breasts stay in their position and avoid any serious injury. No Trespassing by Brinda S. Narayan

About the Author

Book Review #39

I will just start by saying this…I highly recommend reading this book. Brinda give you just enough backstory on the characters that you understand these characters and why they are in the situation they are in. One of my favorite aspects of this book is just how atmospheric and tense the writing is and writer really uses that to her advantage.

Manas and Vedika’s family moves to Fantasia: a high profile society residence. Over time, though, she begins to sense that something is affecting her five-year-old son, Sajan. He seems foggy at times, unable to follow simple orders. Sajan dies in an accident. However, Vedika feels that he was murdered. Anxious to find out what exactly happened to her son, Vedika starts investigating his death.

The story line involving a background story added an extra layer of conspire. I loved the way it all wrapped up together, winding back and forth to keep you on your toes so that you weren’t quite sure where it was heading. I had no idea who the guilty party was and it kept me flipping the pages to find out.

Brinda has definitely become one of my must-read authors and I will be adding her other books to my list immediately.

Book Review #38

Amit throws fresh light on the truth of 18 myths about India from different sectors and different time periods in his book “Demythsifying Myths“. Amit’s collection and accounts are descriptive. Some of them bring to light a dominant part of the personality of the leader he mentioned about. What we know as ‘General Knowledge’ in civics has been willfully challenged and made us accept that the textbooks doesn’t really reconcile with what most common folks grow up knowing about those facts.

The reality is that none of us – whether we’re looking historically or politically – are completely good. Amit has proven that we are cheated and convinced to believe to the level that we believe we can get away with it – and the degree to which we can persuade ourselves that it’s OK.

Written in a form attainable to a general audience, it does not burden the reader with compound discussions.

Panjab : Journeys Through Fault Lines by Amandeep Sandhu

Book Review #37

In one of his interviews with a leading newspaper Amandeep mentioned that it took him more than a decade to explore “PANJAB”, and without a shadow of doubt the same is proven through his work. In the course of sixteen chapters, he has explored several dimensions including Khalistan, The Green Revolution, Drugs, Politics, Deras (By Several Self Acclaimed Gurus), The “1984” attack on Shri Harmandar Sahib (The Golden Temple) and Dalits.

In comparison to other states, Punjab is often considered a land of peace and prosperity. However, while reading the book I seldom questioned this thought of mine.

The Author put forward the most cataclysmic and vivid realities in the history of the Panjab. No Indian writer since has quite managed to capture the underbelly of the states with as much depth and color, including chilling reality of the consequences of religious intolerance and political prejudice.

Overall, the book gives a heart-wrenching depth for the readers, with it’s factual realities. The account gives the picture social, political and emotional angles that exists. The only regret I have is, I would never see Panjab in the same way anymore.

His Father’s Disease: Stories by Aruni Kashyap

About the Author

**********Coming Soon*********

Book Review #36

His Father’s Disease, in basic words are are the stories passed down through generations. The collection is amalgamated by a lenient intelligence that speaks very directly to the reader, and makes us experience each story with speediness and Aruni’s calm passion. The stories included here are of a uniformly high quality, without a knackered among them.

We have this marvelously written work on show, it is really a thing of praise – as if the writer has spent a great deal of time and consideration plucking the best and masterful short stories from the Northeast India. Aruni has compiled something that is not only a phenomenal accumulation of fiction, but also closer to a priceless work of art.

It took me a great deal of time (Almost 3 weeks) to read this book, not that it was fatigue or boring but because when you are given something so interesting, something that has been so delightfully crafted you want to take your time with it, not rush it and then have wasted the experience.

P.S. I couldn’t recommend a book more than I do this!

Myth = Mithya: A Handbook Of Hindu Mythology by Devdutt Pattanaik

About the Author

***********Coming Soon************

Book Review #35

Myth=Mithya is a fair attempt to solve the complex shrine of Hindu gods. Devdutt, says while Hindus believe there is one God, there 330 million others for every caste, village and household. Understanding this complex web is key to understanding and decoding our beliefs, values and behavior.

I absolutely loved this book. I am a big fan of Hindu mythology and books based on classical references, both of which are at the core of “Myth=Mithya”. I’m not so sure about, how closely the narrative is based on those in the original myth but the author doesn’t deviate from what I already knew about these.

Precisely, the book is written in such a beautiful, brilliant and detailed form that you can’t help but fall in a pleasant “Reading Hypnotism”. I would thoroughly recommend this to all fans of Hindu Mythology and even those who aren’t!

Undoubtedly, one of the best works of Devdutt Pattanaik. (Surely, a go to writer for me now)
