An Unforgettable Holiday: What Happens When Love Has No Boundaries…..

Book Review #43

“An Unforgettable Holiday: What Happens When Love Has No Boundaries”, is a debutante novel of “Nisha Mohan”. I am not an avid “Romance” reader but this one kept me hooked. I read it at a perfect time after Nisha requested me to review her book.

Plot

Tania a young, vibrant and an independent young woman working in Bangalore for a company, gets attracted with a coworker Aarav who she believes is in a relationship with another women. Eventually she encounters “Dhruv” who makes her forget her feelings for Aarav and move on.

Things get complicated when Aarav chooses to reciprocate mutual feelings for Tania.
Soon, Dhruv, Tania and Aarav, along with a few good friends, take off on a holiday to Goa where dark secrets begin to unfold.

My take on the book

A fantastic book written beautifully by a new writer. There are stories that drag and slow down my reading but this one is brilliantly curated. All the characters flow with the story but none of them step on each other’s toes. Nisha is a masterful writer and hence you’ll definitely fall in love at least once in this book, and once is usually enough. YA’s will be able to connect with the problems characters face because they’re realistic and relatable at the same time.

Love, and devastating sadness scenes that were so touching I know they’re going to stay in my mind for a long time. At the end I would say the writing was so full of intensity it was almost profusing, but in a good way. The pace is perfect, the suspense grew with every chapter, and I literally bolt through the book at neck-break speed.

Law Of Jiluk Part 2 and 3 by Inba Vignesh (Parts of the trilogy “Law Of Jiluk”)

About the Author (From Himself)

Interview Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Book Review #25 and #26

The book begins well and does have an innocent charm to it. Crafted as a school romance, the main character of the story “Kumba” is smart and familiar to the public school kids.

Let’s start by briefly discussing two relevant things that immediately increased my interest for these books. For one, I love seeing a new writer coming up with an entirely different story line. There has been a long time in the writing industry where “FRESH WRITERS” were not able to see themselves represented on the page because, 1) the concept would not sell or be attractive or 2) there were not enough writers to produce the content that many categorize as “diverse books for Young Adults.” Books that proudly display these aspect very much earn my support.

Secondly, the title for this trilogy is hilarious, new and entirely refreshing. The characters of the story line are entirely distinct from one another and human to the core. The dialogue contains a fresh and nice balance of comical aspect and seriousness that allows for a gradual flow of plot. There is nothing more that I could ask for from Inba Vignesh’s debut.

At the end, I would like to mention that “Law of Jiluk”, reveals the power of coming together and the tragedy of breaking apart.

Book Review #21

The first thing that pops in your head at picking up this book is “What exactly is Jiluk” ? So, to answer your question, “Julik is anything and everything that excites you”. From eating Rajma Chawal to Stair at your Crush, everything is Julik. “Law of Julik” is dramatic, multicultural, and steamy. Inba excels at writing about physical and emotional attraction, and that way that it can evolve into love.

It would definitely take you to the memories of your school days. Made it seem like the right thing for a hot summer weekend. I read it in one day, and am glad that I picked it up. However, at the same time it felt like the book has aimed the younger audience. The more sensual scenes are toned down and aren’t quite as descriptive which does make it feel more appropriate for the YA category. I also liked how the main characters are teens in high school and because of this their parents are a feature in the book!

Overall the book has everything including, romance, family drama and heartfelt moments, this book has it all. Inba did a great job in his first account.

Book Review #15

The Forty Rules Of Love, a book with a great plot with not so great way of writing. The book runs on the parallel times and centuries. One of the Shams of Tabriz and Rumi and the second on Ella and A.Z.Zahara. However, the common thing in both the stories is the message of love spread by Rumi.

An American housewife Ella Rubenstein in her 40’s (not a very happy married woman), takes a job as a reader at a company. Her first assignment is to read a fiction novel called “Sweet Blasphemy”, written by A.Z.Zahara. In his book Zahara, mentions about how Shams of Tabriz and Rumi (companions) dared to break all the conventional rules made by the society in context to love and jihad.

Not everyone welcomes and appreciate their ideas or thoughts, and eventually both of them becomes the target of prevailing rumors, attack and murder.

Getting immensely mesmerized by the story, Ella falls for Aziz, and starts a communication via emails with finally meeting physically. Growing distant from her husband Ella leaves for Amsterdam to meet Aziz and spend the rest of her life with him. While reading the book Ella realizes that her life is just like Rumi, who’s stuck with unwanted relationships and Aziz like Shams who has entered her live to free her like Rumi.

The book consists of 40 rules of love, which are pretty interesting to be read and can stick with you for a long time. Overall a fine experience, not a lot absorbing for me though. Shafak tried to touch the sociopolitical issue, with a contemporary tale of discontentment.

A fine one time read! The way of narration is boring!
